I wonder about this threat of ridicule, how it often works the other way too — like the bully who justifies his violence precisely through the laughter it engenders, the comicality of unnecessary violence — “Come on, get a sense of humor!”

It seems we must take fascism seriously. But it’s already won if we lose our sense of humor!
